I'm a bit confused by the term "risks". How do they measure reduced risk?
I think it's basically: If less people using X get medical condition Y than people not using X, then X reduces the risk of Y. Once you've ruled out confounding factors - e.g. if Snus users tend to eat more bacon than non-Snusers, it might actually be the bacon providing the protective effect.
